point and click

Early computer game sectors had very little processing power so the game designers ability of the time to develop narrative was limited. Computers were more capable of running sophisticated graphics, so gameplay on them became really popular. Point and click games used a simple interface which means that designers could develop narrative much more easily without having to animate character sprites in detail.

Point and click became really popular in the adventure based genre. In 1993 'myst' became one of the best selling games of all time when it achieved sales of 6 million.

As consoles became powerful, the point and click genre became less popular with game developers and gamers, although the increasing trent towards casual gaming and the growth of a range of platforms for hand held gaming in recent years has lead to older point and click games being 'ported' for use on platforms like the nintendo DS, smartphones and tablets.

certain game developers still use the point and click concept to produce interactive gameplay which has multiple complex narrative.

Beyond two souls

Beyond two souls has a narrative which links to movies. This tells us that games in this generation are becoming more interactive and realistic. Theres not much to do in the game just small interactions with more of a narrative.

They have gone out of their way to star big hollywood celebrities in this game such as Ellen Page and Willam Dafoe.

This game even went to the level of advertising it like a movie. Why couldn't they just make it a movie?  Maybe because they wanted gamers to have that experience.

The game has an elastic narrative where it only allows you to move around only hpw the game wants you to.

I agree with the citicism to a certain extent, and i also believe that the game should have been a movie.
